Would you like to earn money by donating poop?
In Halmstad, doctors are seeking volunteers willing to donate their poop to aid in treating patients with diarrheal diseases. This method, known as fecal transplant therapy, has been utilized since 2016 to restore healthy gut bacteria in patients suffering from conditions like Clostridioides difficile infection.
The latest development in this treatment is the use of capsules instead of liquid form, making it easier and more convenient for patients. Chief physician Arne Kötz expressed that this new approach eliminates the need for invasive procedures, such as inserting a tube.
The laboratory in Halmstad is one of three in Sweden working with poop capsules, and they’re actively searching for donors. To be eligible, volunteers must be between 18 and 50 years old. Those who meet the requirements can earn compensation similar to that of blood donors, approximately SEK 50 per donation.
Kötz emphasized the importance of regular donors for at least three weeks to ensure thorough examination of the donated material. This initiative showcases how medical science continues to innovate to improve treatment options and patient care.
