Key dates for income declaration in Sweden
You can find below the key dates for the income tax declaration in Sweden. If you miss the key declaration date, you will have to pay a penalty fee.
- February 12, 2024: An additional payment must be made to your tax account if you anticipate back taxes exceeding SEK 30,000 to avoid incurring interest charges.
- March 3, 2024: Last day to establish a digital mailbox for the receipt of declarations digitally instead of by mail.
- 4-8 March 2024: Individuals with a digital mailbox will receive their declaration as a PDF file. The declaration is also accessible as a PDF on My Pages, even for those without a digital mailbox.
- March 19, 2024: Commencement of the declaration period. Those with an e-identification card can log in to the Income Declaration 1 e-service.
- April 3, 2024: Deadline to approve your return without modifications for receiving the final tax notice and possible tax refund in April. Approval can be done via the app, e-service, texting, or calling.
- 8–12 April 2024: The Swedish Tax Agency will dispatch a final tax notice digitally to those who approved their return without changes by April 3. For those without a digital mailbox, the final tax notice will be sent by mail 1-3 weeks later.
- 9–12 April 2024: The Swedish Tax Agency will disburse the tax refund to individuals who have approved their return digitally without changes by April 3.
- 15 March–15 April 2024: Individuals without a digital mailbox will receive their declaration by mail. Those with e-identification can log in to the e-service Inkomstdeklaration 1 from March 19 to declare, even without receiving the paper declaration.
- May 2, 2024: Final day to declare for those without any delay in submitting the declaration.

- 5–9 August 2024: The Swedish Tax Agency will send a final tax notice to those who declared by May 2 and did not receive the final tax notice in April or June. For those without a digital mailbox, the final tax notice will be sent by mail 1-3 weeks later.
- 6–9 August 2024: The Swedish Tax Agency disburses the tax refund to those who did not receive their final tax statement in April or June, for example, due to a delay in declaring.
- September 12, 2024: Individuals who received their final tax notice in June and have tax to pay must settle the payment to their tax account by today.
- November 12, 2024: Individuals who received their final tax notice in August and have tax to pay must settle the payment to their tax account by today.
- 2–6 December 2024: The Swedish Tax Agency sends a final tax notice to those who have not previously been notified of their final tax or lack tax registration in Sweden. For those without a digital mailbox, the final tax notice will arrive by mail 1-3 weeks later. Individuals with back taxes must pay into their tax account no later than March 12, 2025.
- 3–6 December 2024: The Swedish Tax Agency disburses the tax refund to those who have not previously been notified of their final tax or lack tax registration in Sweden.
